Fast report -7 (FINAL)

FRIDAY, AUGUST 3, 2012

  • Team Anna today (3 august ) ended its10 day long fast.
  • Team Anna(apart from Anna Hazare) as announced yesterday will form an alternative(other then BJP ,congress and others) political party.Anna will not fight election.
  • Today Khejrival, after several criticisms from congress on joining politics, declared that if strong versions of bills like janlokpal, citizen charter, RIR(Right to Reject) etc will be implemented by government in the next 2 years then THEY(Team Anna) WILL NOT FIGHT ANY ELECTION.
  • Team Anna said that party would not have any high command(to select candidates) instead candidates of would be selected by the people of the nation, adding that they would travel across the country to spread awareness. 
  • Team Anna member also asked the people tosuggest a name for their political party, urging students to become a part of the political movement.
  • Team Anna also asked some question from public which are as follows.
     1) How to select candidates from people and How to ensure their credentials?
    2)     How to contest elections without spending money (unlike other political parties)?
    3)         How to enlighten voters to vote on issues and not any other factor (caste/vote bank, alcohol or money)?

  • Earlier Anna has said that  team will probe their background and then put their names on Internet seeking people's opinion about them.
  • IAC  has also asked people  "Should Anna provide a political alternative? SMS Yes or No at 9212472681 " to get reactions of people.
  • This time Anna's fast was broken by Gen VK Singh who reached Jantar Mantar for same.
Reactions:-
  1. Former Army Chief General VK Singh has congratulated Team Anna for fighting against corruption, supporting their decision to provide a political option to the people. Addressing the gathering at Jantar Mantar, Singh said," There are many problems in the country, one of that is black money...the governance is finished and we are directionless."
  2. While congress alleged that they already knew the political motive of Team Anna , other parties welcomed Team's decision.
  3. Swami Agnivesh criticized this decision of breaking indefinite fast "Anna has broken the sanctity of 'anshan' (fast). Anshan is always the last option. This is a black day," Agnivesh said.
  4. Mixed reactions are coming from the supporters of Anna.
Editor's View: JanlokpalBill Center(JLBC) Supports Team Anna's decision of giving a political alternative because government and even opposition will never give a desired and strong lokpal by themselves.
However, JLBC didn't like the way  team Anna ended their indefinite fast, if they were going to give political alternative then they should not have started a  fast till death , and as they started a fast till death they should not end it like this giving health reasons! We want Team Anna to be careful next time, because when they fast, public's emotions comes with them and if they will suspend their fasts like this then if will hurt people's emotions.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 2, 2012

  • Anna today(2/8/2012) announced that they will end their indefinite tomorrow(3/8/2012) at 5 PM .This announcement on calling off the agitation came when people like jurist V R Krishna Iyer and former Army Chief Gen V K Singh, appealed for an end to the fast as the health of Arvind Kejriwal, Gopal Rai and Manish Sisodia deteriorated a lot.
  • Government also remained adamant and lacked will to negotiate.
  • Anna Hazare addressing a huge crowd at Jantar Mantar said that  himself won't join or launch political party. Instead  he said that people of nation will select whom should get ticket and how the alternative party can be created.  Hazare said, he will tour the country urging people to select people to fight elections.Earlier he has said if team will fight election then  team will probe their background and then put their names on Internet seeking people's opinion about them. 
  • "It is time for us to think of an alternative. We want a political alternative. But I will not launch or join a party. People should decide who should be given tickets and how to achieve that alternative system," he said.
  • Today being Raksha Bandhan, lots of female supporters of Anna hazare tied RAKHI in Anna's fist.
Editor's View: Its not the way in which fast should end! Indefinite fast never ends in this manner.Now when the whole momentum was created and the people were finally visiting jantar mantar or doing rallies on street in large numbers, they decided to end the FAST!? Government never agrees in a week of fast. Anna earlier himself fasted for at least 14 days and only then government was ready to negotiate!

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 1, 2012


  • Health of Team Anna members like  Arvind Kejriwal, Gopal Rai and Manish Sisodia  who are fasting for the last 8 days is now worrying
  • According to the a medical report health condition of Arvind Kejriwal and Gopal Rai were worrying but not critical. .However ,condition might worsen if fast continues
    Report says that Blood pressure, sugar parameters are normal. Ketone levels are high. the report said.
  •  Sources say that Gopal Rai's condition is worse than Arvind Kejriwal.
  • Delhi police has written a letter attached with the report of  Ram Manohar Lohia  hospital  to Team Anna, asking its members to call off their fast. The Delhi Police said that the Team Anna members Arvind Kejriwal, Gopal Rai and Manish Sisodia should be hospitalized immediately.
  • However,  Anna and Khejrival that  they saw a conspiracy to take the activists to hospital to end the stir for a strong Lokpal.

  •  Anna Hazare Today( August ,1)  warned the government that he will not negotiate with them if the fasting activists are forcefully removed from the Jantar Mantar protest site here. 

  • Anna also threatened to return Padma Bhushan given to him by government in 1992. He was also awarded  Padma Shri in 1990 which he  had earlier returned Padma Shri on the issue of corruption.  

  • Kiran bedi said that  "No one from government has contacted us. Kejriwal is much weaker than yesterday. I want the matter to be resolved as soon as possible but not at his cost."

  • Team Anna member Sazia Ilmi  also said that its members should not be taken to the hospital forcibly. 

  •  Prashant Bhushan on tuesday , allaged that government want  people like Hazare, Arvind, Manish, Gopal  to die so that they can continue to loot the country.

  • Team Anna also ATTACKED BJP saying that it supported Team Anna just for their own political benefits   Kumar Vishwas said, "They(BJP/RSS) supported our movement earlier but not now. I just want to say you were there in support because you had your own political motives. His( Gadkari ) party was with us because they thought it will help them win elections in five states."
  • Anna also regretted  attack on media persons (for not giving proper coverage to the indefinite fast on corruption issues) saying  "If you indulge in violence, remember that the government can crush us in two days. They have the strength and laws to do that. In future, if these things happen again, at that moment I will call off this agitation. I don't approve of this. Let media do their work. Don't bother about what they do,"

Editor's View: Its now time for government to negotiate, otherwise , if anything happened to fasting members of Team Anna than people of nation will never forgive government!

  • On the 5th day of fast of Team Anna (Sunday) Anna Hazare also began his fast
  • A large number of people gathered at the fast venue on Saturday and even larger number of people around  six to eight thousand gathered at Jantar Mantar on the weekends on Sunday, as Anna began his fast. On Sunday a very big amount of people also gathered at India gate and performed candle march.| It was already predicted by Janlokpal bill Center that the real excitement and involvement of the public will be seen on weekend(Sat and Sun) because even the people who go to their jobs or school or collages are able to participate during holidays.|
  • Anna has declared that he would fast till lokpal arrives. "Till the Lokpal Bill is not passed, the people of this country will not let me die," Anna said 
  • He justified anger of people who protested  at PM's house on Saturday, however also said that it was an angry action and people should thing before taking such action as it involves PM of the nation saying "People are fed up and angry as they have been suffering for so long. We should think before taking any such step as it involves the country's Prime Minister,"

  • Team Anna's member  Sanjay Singh described Modi as a "murderer of humanity" and said Ramdev has to explain why he shared the dais with the BJP leader.  
  • Anna said he was willing to put the allegations against ministers aside for now if the government delivered on the Lokpal, the cabinet ministers remained a focus for the team on the Jantar Mantar stage.

  • Today(Sat 28,7,12) Anna Hazare confirmed his indefinite fast unto death from Sunday(29) . Hazare has given a four day ultimatum from July 25 to 29 to government to accept their demands. Since government didn't reacted, he will begin his fast from tomorrow. "I will fast until we get Jan Lokpal," he said at Jantar Mantar.
  • Hazare said that he himself won't join politics, however may provide an alternative political party,other then BJP or congress for voters for the 2014 election.  Hazare said, he will tour the country urging people to select people to fight elections. He said the team will probe their background and then put their names on Internet seeking people's opinion about them.

Editor's View: Right now there is no good faith that an empowered Lokpal will be implemented, as the lokpal being discussed and delayed in Rajya Saba can't investigate politicians, businessmen and MPs.(click here for more)  Moreover, this time media is also not projecting the campaign in the correct manner. So lets be practical , how will a LOKPAL COME? 
Anna Hazare has not said that he will join politics or only Team Anna will decide the members of their party. He has said that he will tour the country to urge the people to themselves  decide their candidate for party and themselves join politics! Point wise Update

  • Baba Ramdev today(july 27) joined Team Anna's indefinite fast on the third day of the agitation.Ramdev with 2,000 supporters marched from Ramlila Maidan to fast venue of Jantar Mantar. 
  •  At the backdrop of the stage from the pictures of 15 ministers against whom proofs of being corrupt are presented , photo of  Pranab Mukherjee is now totally covered with a paper over it, because him being president of nation.
  • Health of Khejrival (who is diabetic) and Manish Sisodia has been bad on the second day of the fast.
  • Its a common observation that the turnout of crowd is more during the evening(>1000) then in the morning and afternoon(around(200) |because these are working hours for common people|
  • However, in Ramdev's Presence  around 3,000 people had collected at the venue.
  •  Ramdev would continue to support the Anna Hazare movement however he is against personal attacks on anyone.
Editor's View
Turnout is said to be failure by the mass media.But Its not the failure, instead is the wrong planning to choose the fast date and day by T.Anna.Team Anna began their campaign on a working day. Till now (firday) its the working day. So people with jobs are unable to participate in the working hours(morning and afternoon) .
This is clear from the point that crowd is more during the evening(>1000) then in the morning and afternoon(around 200) because these are working hours for common people.So we should wait for weekends(Sat and Sun) for real turnout.
Moreover, Anna will also start his fast from Sunday!

Team Anna began their indefinite fast at Delhi's Jantar Mantar today(julf 25 ,2012)  to highlight the corruption within the government and to push for the anti-graft Lokpal Bill. Arvind Khejrival, Manish Sisodia, , Gopal Rai ,Akhil Gogoi sat on fast from today. However Anna Hazare despite the medical warnings  will begin fasting from Sunday(29).

 The backdrop of the stage has photographs of the Prime Minister and 14 other ministers against whom T.Anna presented proofs of corruption and want a SIT(Special Investigation TEAM) instead of CBI to dig in their cases.The photo of Pranab Mukerji whose name is also included in list of 15 ministers for Ghana Rice Export Scam and who is now president of nation was however covered with a cloth by Team Anna.
Kejriwal alleged that the Congress has "put a chadar (veil)" to protect the former finance minister. 
In a Press Conference at Delhi yesterday, Team Anna clarified their stands  and said that their protest is limited to three demands which are as follows
  1. A SIT probe against 15 Ministers(click here to know more)
  2.  Team Anna also demanded that cases of  162 Lok Sabha members and 39 Rajya Sabha members(of whichever party) who are also facing corruption charges  should be given to the fast track courts
  3. SIT to go into allegations against party chiefs.

  • Team Anna will also use the fast  to share evidence collected against the ministers it has accused of graft. 
"According to the  Constitution, the President has immunity against any investigation. We have given evidence against Mukherjee to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi two months ago," Khejrival said.

Government's Reply
 Law Minister Salman Khurshid suggested the activists should "write to the United Nations."  He said, "They want an  independent probe into matters which have been rejected and disapproved by the Supreme Court."

Fight at the venue 
There was a fight at the venue in the morning, when a group of 15-20 people shouted slogans against Kejriwal. According to Team Anna they were members of the Congress' youth wing, the NSUI. The party has denied this.

Turnout Fast has got an good reaction but the turnout today was small compared to the sort of crowds Anna gathered last August, when he held a 16-day long hunger strike in Delhi to demand new legislation to tackle corruption.

  • Earlier it was decided that Anna Hazare will not in fast, however Annn that he will wait till four days what the government does. Then I will start my fast from Sunday . So Anna will sit on indefinite fast on 29th of july(Sunday) instead of the 25th July fast,however other members i.e Arvind Khejrival, Manish Sisodia, , Gopal Rai etc  will begin their fast as decided on 25th July.
  • Right now Anna's blood pressure is fluctuating.
  • In a Press Conference at Delhi, Team Anna clarifying their stands said that their protest is limited to three demands which are as follows

  1. “It would have been better if Pranab Mukherjee had faced a probe and cleared of charges of corruption before becoming president of India,” Kejriwal said. 
  2.  He further said,  "it is unfortunate that the constitution, which was meant to prevent corruption, gives immunity from both investigation and prosecution to the president. But we will continue to bring out his (Mukherjee's) misdeeds in public."
